DID YOU KNOW THAT GOD LOVES A SACRIFICAL GIVER

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Many persons have a heart for God and they are willing to give to him but their motive becomes sold to 'when I'm blessed'. If you want to do something great for God, if you really want to get his attention, don't wait until you become rich to do your best, give to God what you have now.

Remember the story in Luke 21 about the widow? The bible tells us that when it was time for the collecting of the offering, Jesus began to watch the offering plate. Rich men gave a lot of money out of their abundance while this little widow only gave two mites. Well guess what? Out of all the giving that went down in that sanctuary, it was the widow who got Jesus'attention.

It's never always about the amount...or how much you can do for God, but it's about the sacrifice that lies behind the act.

If you want to get God's attention, don't wait until you have a lot before you give a portion, give now out of the little you possess. Your sacrifice won't go unnoticed.  Happy Monday.

DID YOU KNOW THAT BEFORE EVERY BLESSING COMES A TESTING

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

I am no longer worried or perturbed whenever a storm comes my way because I understand this principle that is often overlooked.

If you are in training in a particular area of expertise, before you can qualify you must first pass the test. So too it is with us and God. Before God blesses us, he will bring us through a test or a series of test to prove whether or not we qualify.

This is what God did with the children of Israel after he made his covenant with them to bless them. According to Deuteronomy 8, God led the children of Israel into the wilderness to prove them and to see what was in their heart.

God only wanted to prove that a set of people would love him in spite of. God wanted to be certain that the blessing would not replace him or their love for him. What matters most to God is our heart...he wants all of our heart.

So the next time you are faced with a trial, just remember that it may be a test. Remain committed to God for he is watching you and before you can be elevated, you must first pass your test.

Pay attention, everything in life is a lesson, be focussed and pass your test.Happy Monday.

DID YOU KNOW THAT IF YOU WANT MORE OF GOD ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO LOVE MORE?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

I’m talking about love which yields commitment.

It is not in how much you know, but how much you do and let me add, how much you do because of love.  1 Corinthians 13 tells us that if we have faith that we can move mountains and if we bestow all our good to the poor, if we prophecy and speak with tongues of angels, if we do not have love we have nothing.

Love is the order of the day and the bible tells us again that the law is fulfilled in this, that we love our neighbor as we love our self.  We must love each other.

Love is also an action word and the scripture goes further to say if you love me keep my commandments.  He that says he loves me and does not keep my words, the same is a liar and the truth is not in him.

St. John 14:21-24 says it this way:

21 He that hath My commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth Me; and he that loveth Me shall be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will manifest Myself to him.”

22 Judas (not Iscariot) said unto Him, “Lord, how is it that Thou wilt manifest Thyself unto us, and not unto the world?”

23 Jesus answered and said unto him, “If a man love Me, he will keep My words; and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him and make Our abode with him.

24 He that loveth Me not, keepeth not My sayings. And the Word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

That’s the secret of love.  If you want more of God just become practical, Become a doer of the word and not just a hearer only. Christ will then be manifested in your life. How much of him do you want?

Happy Monday.

DID YOU KNOW THAT NOT EVERY OPPORTUNITY COMES FROM GOD?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

The devil will use two things to trap a Christian believer and they are deception and distraction. The devil’s intent is to kill steal and destroy and he’s serious about it to the point where he will use anything he can to trap you – even what appears to be good.

A typical scenario may be a person that is sweetly saved and in need of a job.  He/she prays about it and the church may even help to pray, but the first opportunity that presents itself, especially if it is enticing always gets labeled as being God when it is sometimes not God.

Not everything that glitters is gold and when we pray we must be willing to patiently wait for our answer and discern while we wait for it.

There are times when God has better for his people. The devil knows this and in efforts to keep us away from it he presents less in a package that is all so enticing, deceiving people and leading them away from what truly belongs to them.

Today, you can refuse to settle for less when God is not in it.  Do not be distracted by your immediate needs or current situation to the point where you are cheated out of your birthright.  Beware of deception and refuse to settle.

Happy Monday.

DID YOU KNOW THAT NOT EVERY SIGN AND MIRACLE COMES FROM GOD?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

The bible speaks about the last days where many will be deceived and the bible also warns us of many who will come saying they are the Christ and is not.

In the book of Acts chapter 16, a woman possessed with the spirit of divination followed Paul and his companions for many days saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who show unto us the way of salvation.”  One could easily be mistaken that this woman was a prophet sent by God but she was being used by the spirits of divination.

1 Cor. 13:1-3 also tells us clearly that a man can be powerful without having love which equates to God.  If man can be powerful without God it would then suggest that he is being aided by other spirit beings. There is the story of a man who was approached by a woman sometime ago whom he was not acquainted with.  She told him that he is doing a lot of fasting and he agreed; he was doing 21 days.  He was ready to get comfortable in her presence as he was almost certain she was a sweetly saved woman, when he asked her how she knew. Her response took him by surprise as she stated “I can see the aura around you”.  It turned out she was a witch!

Our spiritual light radiates in the earth.  Whatever we think – whether positive or negative – it reflects an energy and light which can be seen and felt by spirits.

Lesson learnt: #believe not every spirit # try every spirit # not everyone that says God means our true and living God #beware of deception.

Happy Monday.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUR CHILDREN CAN HELP TO PERFECT YOU FOR THE KINGDOM?

Did You Know?
Exploring Matters of the Heart
with Terry-Ann Scott

The bible tells us that unless we become like a child, we will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.
When I observe the traits of a child, their purity, innocence and eagerness to forgive is something we all could use as adults.
Just as a child is willing to resume to normal activities and behaviours after receiving a scolding from his/her parent - as  if nothing happened - so too we must be willing to forgive and move on when we are hurt by those close to us and others around us that plays a role in our lives.  Besides this, there is another lesson we can all learn from our children.
Instead of becoming impatient, miserable, upset or angry at their failed efforts such as obeying an instruction, use this time of "the trying of your faith" to bear, grow and develop fruits, by practising to be patient, long-suffering, gentle, kind etc.
Allow trying moments to build and in-still Godly morals, character and good fruits within you - nothing corrupt.  If we pay attention to these things and practice it, we will eventually become loving, caring, tender, kind and wise - the best of who we can become.  Joy and peace will be ours for as long as we decide by remaining loyal to our discipline.  What kind of fruit are you bearing?

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOUR MARRIAGE CAN EQUIP YOU FOR ENTERING THE KINGDOM OF GOD?

Did You Know?
Exploring Matters of the Heart
with Terry-Ann Scott

Marriage can be quiet complex.  Just think about it...men and women were made equally opposites!  Women react based on how they feel and men react based on what they see. So a man may be aroused, satisfied and contented by what he sees his wife doing (for him) but a woman will only feel loved and aroused by how her husband makes her feel.  If he does everything right but  fails to take care of her emotionally, she will never be satisfied.
It is said that, "A woman will give sex to get love and a man will give love to get sex".  Though we are different in many ways, I believe God made it that way to further prepare us for his kingdom.  Marriage is intended to be an unselfish institution - one that reflects love, and selflessness  is a requirement for every believer.  We are required to die daily to self or the flesh and what greater way to develop this lifestyle than to practice with your spouse within your marriage?
If you are willing to give up self daily for your spouse, if you are willing to make sacrifices and do even the things you despise for the sake of love then you are well on your journey into the kingdom if you are willing to apply these same principles to those around you.
I implore you today, do not live for yourself only, but live for others daily.  That is what God did; he denied himself and his kingdom just for you and I.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR THAT WHICH GOD HAS GIVEN YOU?

Did You Know?
Exploring Matters of the Heart
with Terry-Ann Scott

I learned this the hard way.  I was of the belief that if God said it that settles it and I would passively sit and wait for it.  I was also of the belief that if God is in it then he would always magically pave the way for it and things would be achieved easily without a fight.  Boy was I wrong.
Nothing good comes easy (by the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread) and nothing comes without a fight especially when God is in it.   The moment a word is released over your life, the devil begins to fight and to block you in that area.  It's in his nature to resist God and in so doing dampen our efforts of being in the will of God.
If God is in something, expect opposition.  If God is in it then expect a fight. The devil will not sit and watch us cross over into victory land while doing nothing, so we must arm ourselves with the knowledge that we must have a made up mind to fight for that which God have promised us and to fight to the end.
I remember being sick of kidney stones 2 years ago.  The stone was so massive that I was told I would need a surgery to remove it.  I went to my bed one night and I dreamt that I saw the Lord and he told me I was healed.  The moment I received that word you might think that all would be well but that was the time I began to experience more intense pain.  While I was in severe pain and agony, I had to rise upon the authority of Christ and declare my healing.  I had to become violent and take back by force what the devil was determined to rob me of...even though I already had God's word.
I got up out of bed -in pain- and I continued to do my daily activities- in pain.  I decided to act on Gods word that if I am healed then I dont need to be in bed and I refused to give in to the pain.  After a while the symptoms disappeared and I had no need for surgery to this day bless God.
If God says it, that settles it but we must step out in faith.  If God is in it there will be fights but we must be determined to fight to the end.  Christianity is not a bed of roses.  Problems will come but there is one thing we can be sure of and it is that God will be with us to deliver us to the end.
May the church become violent and take back that which is rightfully hers, Amen.

DID YOU KNOW THAT GOD IS INTERESTED IN HOW MUCH YOU GIVE BACK TO HIM?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

There are many scriptures in the bible that supports this but one story stands out.  It is the story of the widow's mite in Mark 12.

The bible tells us that while it was offering time, Jesus sat over where the offering would be collected and he took note of the giving.  Many who were rich gave much, while this poor widow who had nothing except her last two mites gave all she had.

Out of all the giving that went down on that day, it was the widow who got Jesus' attention and he pointed it out to his disciples.   Jesus said that out of all those who gave, it was the widow who gave the most because she not only gave of the last she had, but all that she had.

Malachai 3 also states, "ye have robbed me in tithes and in offering".  Our tithes is different from our offering and if we are faithful in one area and guilt in the next then we are considered 'thieves and robbers'.  Our offering is important as much as our tithes is and vice versa.

Our attitude behind our giving says a lot and can also change a lot.  "If you give to the poor you lend to God".  "It is more blessed to give than to receive".

Happy Monday.

DID YOU KNOW THAT OUR TALENTS ARE CLUES AS TO WHO WE SHOULD BECOME?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

We are all blessed with specific skills and talents for a reason.  Our talents usually gets exposed and aroused by our passion or an unusual interest/desire with something.

Anyone can be the best they could ever become if they choose to operate within the area he/she is gifted and also if he/she allows the gifts which are placed inside of them  to become developed.

Our profession, who we are and who we hope to become is wrapped up within us and our talents serves as a clue.

What ever area you are gifted in and what ever talent you possess, it should not be used only for our gratification but for the glory of God.  What God has placed within us is always to be used to glorify him.

May God be glorified in all we do and say, Amen.

WHY DOES GOD ALLOW BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN TO ME?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Well the answers may vary but I have a simple truth I would like to discuss.  We can never always see clearly In the midst of a storm or in the midst of struggles, and it is usually in the midst of turmoil this question is asked.  If God loves me so much then how could he allow this to happen to me? But if we watch closely the imprints of Christ, if we follow faithfully his footsteps, sooner or later we will be saying thank you Lord instead of why me Lord?

Not all trouble comes from the devil but God will allow trouble to come our way to shake us out of our comfort zone and push us into our destiny. That’s right! Let’s go on a journey for a while.  Envision that you are the parent of a child whom you love dearly that did something wrong.  Your love for the child provoked you to scold the child because you only want what is best.  You are trying to get the bad out of the child but notice what some children will do.  The more you scold them the more they run to you for comfort and attention.  That should be our attitude towards God as this reflects a similar situation between our maker and us.  Let’s look at another example.  Mary has a high income job and she is very well capable to meet her needs and move beyond with much cash to spare.  It is not God’s Plan for Mary to remain in that job (because he has better for her) so he allows her to get laid off.  In the midst of her perplexity she becomes angry, frustrated and confused but then she is also forced to act outside her comfort zone.  As she begins to explore new ways of earning a living, she discovers a business idea that later blossoms and blooms into a successful business.  Of course if her heart remained in God, she would no longer be asking, “Why me Lord?” but instead she’d be shouting, “Thank you Lord!”  If trouble did not come to shake her she would remain an employee of her firm rather than becoming the proud and successful owner of her own business.

The same principle holds true for many situation in our lives.  Trials come to make us stronger.  It comes to purify us and to make us more pure so that our relationship with God can be deepened.  All we have to do is to learn to trust God with our lives because he knows how to prepare us for what he has in store.  Have confidence in his word because his word is true.  Out of evil comes forth good and his word tells us that “he will work all things together for our good to them that love God and are called according to his purpose”.  So the next time you find yourself in a situation where you are tempted to ask why me Lord, just remain close to him and watch him work because he is about to do something great on your behalf.  A few months or even a few days later you may be shouting thank you Lord!

(Other reasons that are all obvious from scriptures are: disobedience, curse, impurity due to evil traits that remain within us, we have turned our backs on God, all of which spells SIN).  Some of these are discussed in details in my other blogs).

Happy Monday.

DID YOU KNOW THAT OBJECTS CAN ATTRACT SPIRITS?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Have you ever been out on vacation and fell in love with a souvenir you thought was just absolutely unique and lovely?  So of course you purchase it - once the price is within your limits.

We need to be remindful that some of these objects especially those that resembles some animals or type of god along with many others, are not as innocent as it looks.

I will share an example.  A man and his wife went on vacation to Hawaii and they purchased a figurine as a souvenir.  When they arrived back home, the husband was suddenly plagued by a lusting spirit.  The couple was told later by a well know deliverance minister that the source of the problem was the figurine.  This was revealed after intense questioning and prayer.  It was not until the souvenir was destroyed, that the couple experienced relief from that sudden onset of lust.

The devil knows his material and spirits are attracted to it.  What do you have in your house?  Do a house clean.  You may be surprise at the source of your problems.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE CLOTHES YOU WEAR CAN ATTRACT SPIRITS?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Fashion is an important aspect for many of us but the clothes we wear also plays an integral role in our lives.  The fashion arena seems to be taken over by witches and satanist and just as a Christian would bless or dedicate something to God, so too they “bless” their designs and this “blessing” of course is a curse.

The labels alone stipulate the consequence for some.  You may purchase brands such as “rebel”, “seductive” or “temptation” for instance for your child and when they begin to act in like manner you may become confused and remain oblivious to the reality of what is going on.

I pray that the Christian community will awake and that many will rise to the challenge that we may have not just more Christian designs but more Christian entrepreneurs in general everywhere.

The bible tells us that the children of the world are wiser than the children of light.  May the Christian community arise.

MY LIFE SUDDENLY CHANGED AND YOUR CAN TOO

“The Revelation of the Dragon: No More Walls” is an e-book about a revelation from God that changed my life for good.  This revelation came in the most trying and difficult time of my life and after implementing a closer walk with Christ and using the strategic warfare prayer points God gave me against this spirit, my life suddenly changed!  I recognized almost immediately that a terrible long standing cycle of pain and misery was broken from my life just by being obedient to God and through maintaining a closer walk with him.

I am exciting with what has transpired in my life and can’t wait to get the information into your hands.  I would love for you to discover what may be the very source of your problems or the problem behind your problem – as I love to put it - that you may begin to live the life that God has intended for you to live from the beginning – a life of victory.  I pray that Pastors and leaders will get a copy of this e-book that they can spread the word within their congregation to impact change.

I just feel impressed to share that in the future all my e-books will be free or made available at a very low price.  Unfortunately, the book production process is a costly one and as a result I am unable to make it entirely free.  I anticipate the print version and the returns from the e-book can be a great help to offset expenses that will be incurred.  I sincerely desire to get the word of the Lord out to his people solely for Kingdom building purposes.  In the mean time I ask you to take a look and support in any way you can for Kingdom building by clicking on any of the two links below.

The Revelation of the Dragon: No More Walls

Until then, see you all Monday (if life tarries) with more “Did You Know”, from my Spiritual Reflections blog.  May God bless you.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN DESECRATE YOUR TEMPLE BY WATCHING CERTAIN MOVIES

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

A true believer will work hard at abstaining from sin but you may be in violation to God's laws and not realize it, if you watch certain types of movies.  Two of the commandments are, 'Thou shalt not kill' and 'Thou shall not commit adultery', and the secular arena is comprised of movies filled with moral decay.  To have for entertainment the appetite to watch people committing adultery or fornication, killing, stealing, you name it, is an act of indulging into something wrong.  This makes it a sin ( we sin in words deeds and thoughts, not just deeds). You may not be doing it literally but you still become a part of it by enjoying such acts.  Even worse, you open your spirits to a host of temptation just by allowing yourself to be a part.

Have you ever watched TV and a burger or Pepsi commercial comes on, then you begin to either immediately of later develop a crave for the same thing?  It works similar with movies, and spirit transfer can take place (many persons have become possessed through this medium).

Solution:  Watch only things that are spiritual, beneficial and edifying to you as a person on a whole.  If it is not spiritual or educational....leave it out!  There are a lot of christian entertainment when it comes to movies, be selective and stick only to what edifies, brings God glory and what the Holy Spirit can be a part of.

DID YOU KNOW THAT NOT ALL MUSIC BRINGS GLORY TO GOD!

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Music was originated by God, but bear in mind that anything God does the devil always imitates. The source and origin of music as well as its intent upon creation, carries significant importance.  Inspiration comes from only two external force and that is God or the devil.  It is important for me to highlight that the creation of music will bring either glory to God or to the devil.  It is therefore necessary that we be careful in what we listen and also what we choose to give to God and be a part of.

I implore you, do not take something that is desecrated and polluted with the intent of sanctifying it to give to God (for eg. taking a secular rhythm to sing a gospel song on). Refuse to give God something that is corrupt and refrain from indulging in such.  We were made as creative beings with creative powers dwelling inside of us.  Allow God to inspire you to originate things for him but refrain from using ungodly inspirations to give praises to God.

The devil knows his material and when we play or sing songs that are his we attract spirits, curses and a host of problems to ourselves. Create an atmosphere for God in your life and homes where he is welcomed and entertained by choosing to sing and listen to spiritual songs and hymns.

Have a productive and God-filled week.

DID YOU KNOW THAT SICKNESS & EVIL COMES FROM GOD

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

There is a common misconception in the body of Christ that sickness and evil does not come from God but this is not true.

Colossians chapter 1: 16 & 17 and Revelation 4: 11 tells us that all things were created by God and for his pleasure.

Sickness and evil is often brought upon people by God in the scriptures as a form of curse or punishment because of sin.

The story of David and Saul in 1 Samuel 16 is just one example where God sent an evil spirit upon Saul to plague him because of his disobedience.

Other examples can be found in Solomon's prayer and the Lord's answer to his prayer in 2 Chronicles chapter 6 & 7, in Deuteronomy 7:15, Joshua 23:15 and more.

Be careful how you live and practice to be sensitive to every situation.  This can change your prayer life drastically.

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO FOR GOD IS TO GIVE HIM YOUR HEART

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

Only then will he have all of you.

Back then in bible days when Jesus was born, he was given gold, frankincense and mere which were considered valuable gifts;  but the best gift that anyone can ever give God today is their ENTIRE heart - not just a part, but all of it.

This would then mean that our life is no longer our own but his so we are expected to live how he wants us to live and to do what he wants us to do.  By giving him your heart, obedience to God becomes a strong requirement while remaining pure and true to him.

This is truly God's desire - for us to obey his word, to live our lives for him and unto him according to HIS will.

Please do not take this lightly.  This is deemed an invitation from God for change.  God forces nothing on no one including change, but instead he works through our conscience by gentle nudging us or by pricking our hearts by showing us the things in our lives that needs to go.

If you begin to unfold the manifestation of specific faults or attitudes that needs to be addressed or if things beginning to bother you more than usual, accept this invitation for change from God by doing something about them.

Tighten what needs to tighten, strengthen what needs to strengthen and heighten what needs to heighten.  Do your part and trust God to fix the rest.

DID YOU KNOW THAT PROBLEMS ARE SOMETIMES THE BEGINNING OF ANSWERED PRAYERS?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

We all need to be reminded that whenever we pray and God begins to come to us and to address our issues, things may get bad before it gets good.  Not every storm is of the devil.  In fact, God works in the opposite way at times.  Some storm is actually the manifestation of God coming to our rescue (read St. John 6).

This scenario is fulfilled in a similar fashion as last weeks's series.  If you are praying for patience, you are going to get many more opportunities where you need to exercise patience and if you are asking God to teach you to trust him more, you may find yourself in situations you wished never existed.  Do not be quick to blame the devil because your problems can be a gold mind in disguise - it may very well be the hidden answer to your prayers that you have been waiting for. Problems are sometimes the beginning of answered prayers so buckle up and get serious.  I guess the real question here is how badly do you want it?

Yep! If you lack patience and you have been praying for more, your patience will be tried even more.  This is an opportunity provided to produce change. Take advantage of it so that that which is needed can get room to grow. This principle applies to everything so watch out!

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing (James 1: 2-4)

DID YOU KNOW THAT GOD CHANGES NO ONE?

Did You Know?

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

If you have been praying about something that you need to change then here is something for you to think on.  God changes no one, but instead he provides the opportunity for change.

He may aid or assist you in the process by giving you the strength you need and also encouragement and support through a friend, his word or in prayer, but he will not be doing the work for you.  You are required to do your part while remaining sensitive to his assistance.

So if you are still praying about the fact that you procrastinate too much, or that anger problem you struggle with or your mouth that you can't seem to control or that issue of lust for example, continue praying but start working.  Less prayer with more action will get the job done.

Have a wonderful week!

REFLECTION #20: IT'S YOUR CHOICE

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Living life is all about making choices but it should never be to just make a choice, but always to make the right choice.  The choices we make can either break us or make us.  They will either build us up or tear us down, it will either lead to your success or to great disdain. With this in mind we must learn to make the right choices for ourselves.

People often make impaired choices because of impaired thinking so to begin with, you must get your mind into the right place and have the right focus if you want to make good decisions.  It is a normal thing to lean towards thinking that what you think is right but it can work against you when what you think is right is not right; so check your thinking and check it again.

Its very alarming the reality that exist of the things people will do from what they won't do because of the belief system they are working with.   People may eat somewhere because of how it looks without even paying close attention to the quality of the food or who prepares it.  This is especially true if everyone seems to be going there.  OR, people may choose a particular style or fashion because that's the new swing or trend, or maybe because everyone is wearing it.  Some may deliberately look elsewhere because everyone IS wearing it and you love to stand out but there has to be more to your choices than just what people thinks!

If you are going to learn to make good choices, you must first be free from all public opinion and outside pressure that you may come up against.  It does not matter how it looks, or what others might think as long as God is in it! The majority is not always right and so too it may not always be a good idea to go with the crowd.  Learn to make wise, solid lasting choices that will impact your life in a positive way without the direct or indirect influence of others on you. You don't always have to follow the trend but instead dare to be a trend setter.  Either way, pay keen attention to the choices you make in life and even more importantly, pay attention to the reasons behind your decisions!  You may surprise yourself!

REFLECTION #19: IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

A few weeks ago after giving my children an early bath, they headed outside to play.  They looked so nice and clean - so of course - I did not want them to get dirty.  As I made sometime to watch them I saw them heading to a dirt area so I told them to play else where.  My eldest got up but still decided to used his foot and play in the dirt so I asked him politely - though I was irritated - if he did not hear me when I spoke.  Sure enough he heard me, but thought I was more interested with him not getting his clothes dirty hence his attempt to use his slipper to play within that area.

As I tried to be understanding, I realized right there and then that we behave similarly with God on a regular basis.

How many times has he freed us from worry, anxiety, a mess up life , you name it and we find ourselves entangled again in the same situation?  How many times have God taken us, dress us and fix us up and we mess things up?  How many times have God cleaned us up and we lure our way right back into the thing which he has saved us from?  It could be fear, theft, lying, mental fogginess or confusion, absent mindedness, anger, un-forgiveness ...it does not matter.  When God saves you, takes you out of something and fixes you up, it becomes your responsibility to maintain your deliverance.

It may not be easy folks, it is a fight.  But be aware, be alert and stay focused.  Your destiny is in your hands, not God's hands alone; it's your responsibility!

REFLECTION #18: WHY DID I DO THAT?

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

If you've been in a situation where you have acted out of impulse and said or did something that was not impressive, you probable would ask yourself the question why did I do (or say) that?

If you have had some of those moment or way too many, chances are you would not even realize your odd response until after you calm down and stop breathing hard.

The Holy Spirit sure has a way of dealing with us in moments like those; sometimes with a sharp rebuke and at others times he nudges us gentle by bringing back the situation and our response before our mind.  This is the embarrassing part where we might say, "Oh my God! I wonder what s/he thinks lol."

Well believe it or not, here's the hard part; in many instances if not all, these are the results of spirits influencing us to behave in a particular manner.  That's right, many times we have given ourselves over to the influence of demonic spirits.  If you fail to believe this, just take a note of the feelings that try to come upon you to act or behave inappropriately.  This is a constant war against the flesh!  The bible says resist the devil and he will flee from you and if you resist these urge it will eventually go and you feel  the difference.

The same principle holds true when you are offended, or hurt in any way; you will find that you have to fight the spirit of anger, hatred, unforgiveness, bitterness, you name it, that will come against you.  This is a daily battle that we are in.  Fear, anxiety and worry etc. are spirits that we contend in a similar way.

Might I hasten to add that the fact that you come up against these spirit does not mean you are possessed (where a demonic spirit lives within you), but it reflects the fight we are in where these spirits will almost constantly try to oppress you (act from without).  On the other hand, if you find that it is impossible for you to control yourself in any way or if you struggle with things you know is contrary to the word of God, it would be wise to talk to a Holy Ghost filled Pastor or someone with a close walk with God whom you trust.

Pay attention to the way you act and the feelings you come up against.  You do not have to do something because you feel like it neither do you have to say something because you feel like it.  If you belong to Christ, pay attention and represent him well.

REFLECTION #17: WHERE IS YOUR MIND?

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

One of the hardest lessons I have learnt in life (and is still learning) is to control my mind.  By that I mean to develop a conscious awareness of where my mind is and what it is doing (the thoughts i'm reflecting on) at all times.

It is a dangerous thing to lose mental awareness and clarity of our own thoughts because this signifies how subtle the devil can distract and engage us into things that are contrary to God's word.

Have you ever been talking to someone and you respond without even realizing what you are agreeing to until you finally awake to the consciousness of the conversation?  Maybe you would even go as far as denying your response or begin to question the persons judgement when it was truly and error on your part.

Maybe its more like you sitting in a room dazed just staring and when you catch up on yourself you can't even pinpoint what you were thinking about.

If this is you, you need to regain control of your mind that the devil will not be able to use your mind as bait to deceive you.  There are demonic spirits that are present and anxiously awaits the perfect opportunity to destroy us.  The church is in a deep sleep where it has loss spiritual consciousness to what is happening around us.  This loss of consciousness have retracted the power of God from moving the way he intends to as believers constantly lie in blindness.  It is now our responsibility to arise and to take control of our territory.

If you are not in control of your mind, then who is? If you are not aware of what your mind is doing it means that you are susceptible to evil forces.  I implore you by the grace of God to gird up the loins of your mind and be sober.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Know where your mind is and know what your mind is doing at all times.  May God bless you always!

REFLECTION #16: TIGHTEN YOUR FOCUS

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

I have learnt that if you want to be successful in any fight you better study your opponent and his moves.  Never under estimate your opponent.  In this daily fight, our opponent - the devil - knows our weak points and the right buttons to push  because he have studied us.

The devil will do whatever it takes to get us in a defeated state.  He will use the children, our marriage, financial struggles, problems in the work place... you name it, all of which spells distraction.

You got it!  The devils main ploy is to distract us and to get us off track that we no longer follow God but stray from the things of God.  But if you remain focus and keep your eyes on God through it all he will be defeated and God glorified.

We must learn from the examples that Jesus have left us.  In the midst of the storm while he was out at sea, with his disciples, he was slept.  Can you imagine sleeping in the midst of a storm while out at sea?   He never lost focus and he never got distracted by what was going on around him.  Not even by his disciples that became fearful.

It is so easy to get distracted these days.  It can be difficult to focus on that which is seen so you can imagine that which is not seen.

Jesus knew his father and he had absolute trust, confidence and assurance in him.  It took faith for Jesus to lay down his power and take the form of man to come to earth, but his faith was rested in his fathers hands.

Where does your faith lead you right now?

Every storm is either to elevate you and take you higher or if it was sent by the devil it is to distract you and cause you to shift your focus from off God.  Never take your eyes off God and put it on your problems. Focus and rest in God.  Do not be distracted.

REFLECTION #15: STOP! THINK...PAY DAY IS COMING

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

You know how the bible says do unto others as you would have them to do to you and that he God will give to every man according to the fruit of his doing?  Well, the sad reality is that many things we encounter in life are because of the impaired choices we have made throughout our life time.

Many people do not realize and understand that to what ever measure they give the same will be measured back to them and this is not just monetarily but it goes beyond a wider scope.

What ever you do in life, look at it as seeds that you are planting and the harvest for your seed is sure.  So if you plant forgiveness you will reap forgiveness.  If you plant kindness, you will reap kindness.  Whatever seed you sow that is what you will reap so be careful what you do in life because your harvest is coming.

Be careful what you say, be careful what you do and be careful how you treat others!  Spread some love today and share a few kind words.  You may never know... the good and bad you do today will come right back to you.

REFLECTION #14: BEWARE OF DECEPTION

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

I’m sure we are all familiar with the famous quote, “not everything that glitter is gold’, and the same principle holds true in many different ways.  Every coin has two sides, every story has two versions, everything that looks real is not real and not every sign or word is from God.

If we do not learn to discern between good and evil, right and wrong, truth from lies and God ways from our ways, we will be in trouble.

We are living in a fallen world with a lot of deception around us and this is no time to be gullible.  The bible teaches us to try every spirit and this is something that should be a part of our nature by default.  Not every spirit is of God and not every one that says God means God.  So too the reality remains, not every opportunity is from God and everything that seem right in our eyes, is not always right.  The bible tells us that there is a way that seems right to a man but at the end is destruction.  The devil has the power to appear in any form he chooses even as an ‘angel of light’ so I can’t stress this enough….discern discern discern, and beware of deception.   That’s his ultimate goal to deceive, distract and detour or to kill, steal and destroy.

My encouragement to you is in all your ways, acknowledge him and allow him to direct your path.  Do not judge things by the way it appears to be in the natural, pray for the spirit of discernment and learn to see things through the eyes of the spirit.  Do not judge a book by its cover but rather by the contents written within.  Sensual wisdom and Spiritual wisdom has its place, but seek the latter.  Forget about what you think and embrace God’s standards.

REFLECTION #13: WHO'S IN CONTROL?

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

It is rather interesting how often we can forget who's really in charge, by trying to make things possible on our own.

If we just stop to think and allow God to get his rightful place in our lives - which is at the head to lead us - things would fall into correct perspective and flow much smoother and easier.

Trying to make something happen on our own can be quiet challenging.  Trying to make something happen that is outside of his will becomes more tedious and impossible, which can lead to frustration and bewilderment.

No matter where you are in your life it is extremely crucial to find out if you are in God's will and if God is at the head of your life.  Before Joseph was promoted, he was first sold into slavery and later placed into prison but no matter where Joseph went God's divine favour went with him and that was because God was in control.   Based on his situation, his circumstance then, and his surrounding, he could appear to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, but patience, loyalty and humility turned it all around for him.   Even when it seem like things are going wrong or the opposite way, I challenge you to remain faithful to God.  It was his faithfulness and obedience that activated God to move on his part in the right time leading up to his promotion.  God has a time for everything.

Ensure that he is at the wheel of your life that his timing will be able to manifest into our lives (our personal desires and reasoning can mess up God's timing for us).  Whatever time it will take for us to get to where he wants us to be and to accomplish all that we must here on earth or all that we desire, when God is in control of your life what we may accomplish in our own strength over five years, God can give it to us in one day.  All you need is God's favour, his guidance and direction.

Choose to be obedient to him and give him FULL control of your life and things will turn around.

It pays to be obedient, it pays to be faithful, it pays to abide in his will, it pays to serve God and it definitely pays to wait upon him. Patience is virtue.  May God give you the wisdom to discern, the patience to wait and  the knowledge to understand.

REFLECTION #12: BACK FROM THE DEAD PRT 2

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Believer's we are living in serious times.  We better get it right and remain close to God CONTINUALLY.  I cannot stress this enough.

We need God's covering and protection always so he can fight for us but we have to live holy in order for God to move on our part.

During the ordeal with my mom, she later revealed that she felt funny while travelling in the air.  This feeling left but returned the following day and intensified until it took her out.  To show you how God is good, before she died she went upstairs to rest.  When she laid down she felt within herself to return downstairs should something terrible happen to her, and those around her think she's asleep.  On top of that, a voice told her to remove the bottom plate from her mouth.  We know that was the Spirit of God.  She obeyed and just minutes after returning down stairs she died! (It pays to be obedient).  The day before also, when they were on their way from the airport, they were discussing death and resurrection stories!  God was definitely preparing them for something.

Prayers were being sent up for her all around some parts of the globe.  It was the devils intent to take her out before her time but what the devil meant for evil God stepped in and turn it around for good.  My brother experienced a special anointing for the moment and when she was given over he spoke and declared the word of God over her life, "she shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord".  I hear a scripture verse floating in my mind...it says, "If God be for us who can be against us?"  No witch, no warlock. no devil, no demon. Nothing by any means can harm us or overtake us if we have God on our side.  They can try yes, but no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper and every tongue the bible says that rise up against us will be condemned. That includes the tongues of witches, demons, satanists, warlocks you name it.

Evil powers exists, it is real, but God's power is greater.  It is greater for any trouble, any sickness or any situation. The powers that be are of God, all power belongs to him.

It pays to live for God and it pays to be obedient and in his will.  No matter what you may be going through right now, no matter what you may encounter, as long as you have God on your side, it will be alright.

It may not work how you think it will, it may not go as you expect it but once you remain and abide in his will, it will be alright.

Her experience have confirmed to her personally that there is life after death.  There is another world out there that exists and is very much real even more than the one we are in now.  People, when we die, when our breath leaves this body, another world awaits us.  The reality is hell and heaven is real and when our appointment comes for us to leave this world we will be entering into the next - a place of eternity.  That's a reality!

I invite to to stay close to God and remain under his covering by living righteous and holy as he is that you may be continually protected by his power.

Where will you spend your eternity?  Where will you go when your breath leaves your body or when Christ returns for those that are his?  Once you have breath it's never too late to surrender and commit your heart to him entirely.  No man knows the minute or the hour when he will return for us his children or when death may strike.  Live like he wants you to live.  Make that conscious decision now!  Time is crucial; don't wait!

REFLECTION #11: BACK FROM THE DEAD

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

We have read about it, heard about it and  we have talked about it.  Some of us have even experienced it.  I am talking about the power of God in action in our own lives! God is still in the healing business and he still raises the dead too.  I just want to testify for a while in this weeks series of reflection.

Wednesday June 8, 2011, was no ordinary day.  My mother was scheduled to visit one of my brother and his family in Atlanta Georgia.  I remember waking up with a feeling in my gut and the thought, "What if I never see her again", raced through my mind.  Due to the flight, my mom left early that morning and I never got to say good bye on that day.

I dismissed the thought and sure enough we got a call later to say she had arrived safely, but little did I know what awaited us.  The following day seemed pretty normal until about 5:00 pm on the evening of Thursday June 9.  It was business as usual when the telephone rang.  My brother from Atlanta Georgia was on the line telling us to pray because mom was being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance as he spoke and it does not look good. He informed us that she was not responding and there were suspicion of a stroke. It did not look good.

Mom began to complain of a funny feeling.  We were told that during a conversation with mom she stopped speaking.  When my sister-in-law turned to see what was wrong she saw mom sitting up in a couch with her eyes dazed and distant.  When she checked, mom stopped breathing and started to become stiff. She cried out for Andrew and he came rushing down the stairs speaking in tongues.  God was preparing him for something.  There was a nurse living next door and after trying to resuscitate her for ten minutes before the paramedics arrived, the situation seemed hopeless.  The nurse began to cry.  My brother was a detective in the force for over two decades and he knows what a dead person looks like but he continued to pray and speak life over her.

The paramedics was now on the scene and they told Andrew things looked pretty dim and hopeless but he respond she will be fine.  They worked on her for another 10 minutes and still no change.  They continued to work on her in the ambulance and the most unusual thing happened.  As the ambulance pulled up into the hospital grounds, mom became conscious and answered questions they asked her.  They moved her in, ran many tests and all came back normal.  A stroke was ruled out but they kept her in for more tests.  We received an update of her progress by telephone but it was not yet over.

The following day we received another call that mom died again in the hospital!  She was asked by a nurse to turn on her side as they were preparing to do a test and the next thing you know...it was a code blue.  The machine flat lined and she was dead.  Her bed was surrounded by doctors and nurse.  During this time she was in another world.  She had an out of body experience and just over a minute she was brought back to life. Thanks to the doctors swiftness and expertise they managed to bring her back to life but we know that God was the one really in control.  She has her medical report of her testimony but until this day the doctors can't find a cause for her death.

Join me next week for the continuation of this amazing testimony.

REFLECTION #10: ENDURANCE

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Have you ever been in a position before where you thought, "this is it, my life is over, or I'm dead now", you were about to throw in the towel but time have elapsed and you find yourself looking at where you are now in comparison to where you use to be when it becomes obvious that God has been with you all along, working things out even when it did not seem that way?  If you can identify with this, maybe you have reach the point also where the question "what if i had give up then," follows.

You know, that moment where you are just about to arrive at a breaking point and you are now challenged with the choice of giving up or  keep going and just as you make your decision the end results of your situation is revealed.  The bible says the race is not for the swift but for those who can endure to the end and that is what this is all about.... endurance... enduring to the end.  Not knowing when the end is can be a challenge for many.  Just think about it for a minute.  You are at the gym doing bicep curls with a trainer and after many reps your biceps begin to burn.  You begin to get exhausted but he's pushing you to complete a few more reps. You become concerned because of the burn you're feeling and not knowing how many more you can manage bothers you.  The idea of doing more just forces you to want to give in.  Anyways, you keep going and going but your muscles get real fatigued and sore.  Not wanting to give up, you try to find out how many are left and he responds by saying, "give me a few more, you're almost there keep going". You want to complete them all but you just can't seem to fathom how to get those reps done with very little energy and through all that pain.  You get the idea? How many more could you do under that circumstance?

To endure to the end means you need to keep going and trying at what ever until that break comes.  That is how it is in life.  Sometimes we may  find ourselves in situations where you don't know how much more you can take or how long you can keep trying, but you must remember that it is not over until God says so.  The only way out is to first go through and if he brought it to you he can bring you through it.  The reward is at the end and if you fail to hang in there and push through the circumstance no matter what, you will miss out on your breakthrough.

Moral of the story:  Hold on and keep trying no matter what because only then will you reap if you faint not.  Keep pushing because the reward awaits you at the end. Pray for endurance and stretch yourself.  Push a little more because its not over until God says it is.

REFLECTION #9: WHAT'S YOUR PRIORITY?

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

With all the demands and expectations that life brings with itself, anyone can become confused, deceived or mistaken with what true priorities really entail.  This is something that we all need to be mindful of.  Our profession, career, education, personal desires, interests and possessions etc. are all important, but at the end of the day we should never forget the real value of God, our family, our marriage and friends.

It is good for anyone to advance or climb the cooperate ladder but if it comes with the price of not being a part of your child's life for example, Would it really worth it?

We may escape the harsh effects of putting things before family or friends, but God on the other hand takes second place in no one's life.  He is a jealous God and requires first place only.  The irony to all this however is that we need God at the head of our life to take us to where we need to be.  Only God knows our beginning from our ending but if we don't give him first place and allow him to take the lead in our lives we will miss out on his plans for us.  We desperately need God's leading in our lives but we have to surrender to his way and his will by putting him first.

If anything is taking you away from God, and keeping you out of the life of those who are important to you, it may be a wise decision to take a stand for the things that are really important.  Life is short and earthly things are only temporal. Material possessions and earthly gains are vain.  They are only for a while and will vanish someday but memories, love and kindness etc lives on.  So make time for those you love and make time for those who need you.  Make time to be a part of the lives you were meant to impact in a positive way.  Make right choices and prioritize wisely always.  God bless!

A Timely Thought:  Earthly things are temporal, but spiritual things are eternal.  Choose the better part.  Seek those things which are spiritual and eternal.

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth" (Col. 3:2).

REFLECTION #8: CUT IT OFF

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

I find it alarming the poor choice we sometimes make.  It becomes obvious to me that if we are going to get serious about making heaven our home there are a lot more things we are going to need to do from our part.  We have already established that this fight is a spiritual fight and that we are in a war from last weeks series so as I reflect on poor choices only one thing becomes clear to me.

The bible says, "if your right hand offend you cut it off".  As believers with heaven in sight we must guard or protect our spirits loyally and painstakingly.  At some point or another, we need to come to the place in our lives where we learn how to make conscious and radical decisions without the intervention of another.

So if you find that worry zaps the energy from you, cut it off!  If anxiety cause you to be in the way of God, cut it off!  If fear cuts the connection between you and God, cut it off!  If doubt interrupts your relationship with him, cut it off!  What ever it is that will come between you and God make the conscious decision today to cut it off.  Get rid of it.  Remove everything that may interrupt and disrupt your peace.  Cut them all off in the name of Jesus.  You have nothing to lose but only to gain.  Take a firm stand for Christ today and become sick and tired of being sick and tired.  Only then you will produce positive results.  Will someone stand with me for Christ today?  Cut off the bad ways, cut off the bad attitude, cut off stubbornness  rebellion and pride.  Cut off everything that does not represent Christ in the name of Jesus.  Cut off anger, cut off unforgiveness, cut off bitterness, cut off hatred, cut off negativity.  Say no to the devil and yes to God.  The decision is yours, the choice is yours.  God is far more precious to please than anyone or anything else.  Make a radical decision and  cut it off!

REFLECTION #7: TAKE IT BY THE NECK

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

We are living in a serious time and if anyone have not yet realized that we are in a daily battle which is spiritual, then you need to educate yourself through total dependence on the Holy Spirit.

We are in a war and Paul gave insight into the type of war we are fighting.  He said, "we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places.

I have come to accept the fact that this fight will never end until the return of our Lord.  The devil will not stop to make war against the saints until God comes back for his children.  I understand perfectly why we are referred to as soldiers because we are in a spiritual war daily.  Yesterdays victories are not sufficient for tomorrow's challenges. Each day is  a new day; new war to face and new victories to be won.

With this in mind, we need to develop a war like mentality to fight daily without succumb to the temptations of giving up or backing out.

Remember the story of David and Goliath in the book of Samuel?  I just love the  fearless and warrior mentality that David possessed.  He knew and understood that the battle was not carnal neither was i physical.  He faced it as a spiritual challenge and he knew the battle was not his but for the Lord's.  Little David because of  his courageous efforts and total confidence in God, fearlessly challenged someone quiet bigger than himself.  His zeal paid of and his fierceness gave him the head of Goliath.  David knew that nothing was too big for his God to handle and therefore nothing was too big for him!  He learned how to see things God's way.

My brothers and my sisters, what is the Goliath in your life today?  What mountain stands before you?  What is it that seems impossible in your life right now?  I say to you my friends in Christ, take it by the neck!  Though the road seem rocky, take it by the neck! Though the hill might be steep, take it by the neck! The circumstance might seem dim right now but take it by the neck! You may be getting weary, it may seem as if you are fighting a battle that you will never win or that may never end but I say to you right now go with God and take it by the neck.  We can accomplish nothing in our own strength.  We can accomplish nothing on our own.  We can never accomplish that which we must without first seeing things the way they really are in God's eyes.  Get God's perspective before drawing your own assumptions.  The situation may look hopeless but before giving up what does God have to say about that situation?   As warriors we must be fearless and not easily discouraged.  We need a soldier mentality where we will fight without backing down.  It is about time the body of Christ become violent and take by force all the devil have stolen from us.  Rise up! Get violent in spirit, face whatever you must and take it by the neck.  Go with God and victory will be yours in Jesus' name!  Peace be with you all, amen.

REFLECTION #6: PAY ATTENTION TO THE LITTLE THINGS

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Have you ever heard the popular quote which goes like this, â€œWatch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become actions.  Watch your actions, for they become habits.  Watch your habits, for they become character.  Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny?”  Well if you look at the quote carefully you will recognize a couple of things.

1.  Everything begins with a thought and,

2.  I could just sum this all up by saying you will eventually become what you think (please pay close attention to your thought life) OR, You are what you repeatedly do.

With this in mind, it would make sense that we all need to pay close attention to not just the big things but also the little things we do because they all become apart of us -  not just the things which are outstanding, but everything we do forms character whether good or bad.

Sometimes we get so caught up evaluating things that are obvious like not stealing, not committing adultery  fornication or lusting etc while  the sins of doubting, backbiting and envy etc. goes unnoticed.

In another sense, our habits - whether good or bad - not only affects our personal life but also our spiritual walk with God and this is why we need to identify and address not only what seems big to us but also the little things.  A few examples of these are slothfulness, indecisiveness, fear, doubt,  jealousy, the need for excitement or doing new things and the list goes on.

It is as simple as this.  If you suffer with the fear of being rejected by others you may more or likely have the same fear to be rejected for Christ (which is expected).  If you doubt yourself continually, you may eventual begin to doubt God's voice,  instructions and even his call.  If you get bored easily, chances are you probably will become weary of doing something the Lord have entrusted you to do.  Do you see where i'm going?  While every little habit may not affect every part of your life, please be informed that some definitely will at some point or another.  (It would help to evaluate your past also and deal with anything that is still affecting you because our past helps to form our character whether good or bad).

So while you spend time to fix what needs to be fixed in your life, don't ignore the little things because these little things can surface and work against you in the future.  Change is a process and as we pay keen attention to the things that needs to change, God will help us as we do our part, if we allow him.

REFLECTION #5: WHOSE VOICE ARE YOU LISTENING

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

In this world, there are two main source to everything and two main force behind them; they are good and evil, God and the devil.  Believe it or not, all our actions are linked to one of these source or force (God or the devil) and they are revealed through the choices that we make.

One primary way in which these forces communicates with us is through our hearing which we often mistake as our personal thoughts.  This is a continued process in which we all experience daily and no one is exempted from this position -  to choose which force to talk to them or when - but each individual has the responsibility to choose which voice to listen.

Every day, two voices speaks in our ears and we must make the conscious decision of which voice to listen to.  We can make a clear distinction between both voices through the content of the message, knowing that nothing good comes from the devil; his message is always polluted and corrupted leading to sin while on the other hand,  nothing corrupted or polluted comes from God.  God is the force behind good and purity.

With that in mind, it is imperative for us to know that our decisions and our actions reflect and support only one of these force.  And so i'll ask;  Whose voice are you listening?  Are your actions portraying good or bad?  Are you reflecting Christ or the devil?  Who are you representing today?  You may say you are an ambassador for Christ but does your actions say the same thing?  Let your actions match your words because it is by our actions that we will be judged and not our words.

If God be God, serve him! And if God is your God, then listen to him!  The book of James tells us that we are to be doers of God's word and not just hearers.  Let your actions lead the way.

Now i'll ask you again and think sincerelyy before you answer; whose voice are you listening? Reflect on this thought today.

REFLECTION #4: WHO DO YOU SEEK TO PLEASE?

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Life is full of surprises and with some of those surprise comes pain.  Sometimes we try to seek the easy way out, but what we see as easy can become troublesome after a while.

So OK.  Your boss or someone close just does not 'get you' and its a pain to feel left out so you come up with this 'brilliant' idea to capture attention - you know ... to show you are a cool person etc etc, but your little gesture fails miserably.  Maybe you have a fear of being alone or rejected so what do you do?  You try to get people to like you and to be on your team.  Well, while wanting to be accepted may be normal, it can become a burdensome task walking around trying to please everyone to get approvals.

Love, acceptance and approval may be deemed as necessary, but it is important to remember that at the end of the day you need God's approval even more.

It makes no sense to do all the wrong things just to get someone to accept you and become a cast out in the eyes of God.  God's approval is far more greater than the approval of any man.  If you can please God and be in right standing with him then you will be in right standing with others also.  They don't have to like you for it, but you will know to do what is right and the truth will set you free.

Recognition is keen but whom do you seek to please?  It is better to be recognized by God than to be recognized by man and become an out cast to the Kingdom of God because you can be recognized by man but still not recognized by God.  In all you do, ensure God is pleased because he is the final judge and has the final say to your final destination, heaven or hell.

Make that conscious decision today to please God.

REFLECTION # 3: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU THINK

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Are you familiar with the popular bible quote which says, 'whatsoever a man sow that shall he reap', or the famous saying, 'what goes around comes around'?  Quiet often we recognize the harsh effects our words and actions can have on us while we over look another quote I have to agree with - 'be careful what you wish' and i'll add - because wishes can come through.

You know those days in the morning where you wish the alarm clock did not have to go off?   Have you had those moments when you wish you could just draw the sheets, lie in bed all day and do nothing, and the thought - or something close - comes to your mind; I wish I had the flu or I wish i was sick so I don't have to report to work.  Maybe you even faked being sick or having 'so called' emergencies a few times!  If you know you have been guilty well its time to start watching what you think because it will come into reality sooner or later.

I recall a time in my life where I was fed up and lets just say ready to give up on life and everyone around me.  Things was not working out for me and the devil capitalized on my situation and I bought into his lies.  Each morning I woke up I was so depressed for the fact that I had life and I kept envisioned myself intensely, sick and dying.  I wanted to get out of this world so badly that every core and fiber of my being felt what I envisioned and guess what; I became ill!

I was so sick to the point where I could not walk due to chronic back pain and I had to get shots at the hospital weekly for the sever pain I felt, which later became of no help to me.  After spending a fortune on all sorts of test, I was told I had a huge kidney stone that look like a rock on one of my lungs.  The doctor sent me for another test to do before scheduling surgery he said I needed,  to break the stone in pieces to get them out.

Well guess what again??  During the same time, I received a visitation from the Lord!  He came in person and he taught me a few lessons I will not share now; but one question he asked me stuck out and it was this.  "Why did you ask me to put sickness on you?"  I said, "Lord I did not...".  Before I could go further he placed images of the past into my head reminding me of those times I wished I was sick and would eventually die.  I could not refute those moment.  From then, I got a clear understanding that we must not only be careful of the things we say and do, but also of the things we think.  He told me he was going to heal me and I remember when his healing power came a few weeks after.  I felt intense heat and pressure on my back for about two hours - it was as if someone was standing on my back and I am totally healed and pain free without the intervention of medical surgery today! With that being said, I believe the opposite is quite the same.  What if we learned how to use our imagination wisely and think ourselves out of every dramatic or horrible situation we find ourselves into?  Our words are powerful, but our thoughts have power too; so get your thought life together!

You can be awarded by what you think so until then - Be careful what you think!

REFLECTION #2: HOW'S YOUR ATTITUDE

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

It is said that your attitude determines your altitude, and I have to agree.

Our attitude is something that often gets overlooked but if you are interested in becoming the person God wants you to be then start paying close attention to your attitude.

In life, your attitude can either make you or break you, it will either build you up or tear you down; so it is worth the time and energy to do some thorough reflection and soul searching.

Our attitude is usually a reflection of what's going on within.  It is that permanent character or disposition of a person, formed over the years.  In other words, it is simply a reaction - how we feel and behave.  Our attitude determines our output and our pass experiences affects our character negatively or positively.  The reality is dauntless; your attitude towards your family, your friends, your career, your marriage or your life on a whole, will determine the outcome of your future.  The quality of life produced is determined by our attitude - the way we feel and react to things.

When you are presented by situations you find challenging, watch your attitude. When you are faced with problems in the work place, watch your attitude.  When your mind is bombarded by temptation or inner fears, watch your attitude.  If it seem as though everything around you is about to cave in, that is the time you need to watch your attitude because God is watching even when no one else is.  He is our reward and until you pass the test gracefully, you cannot be promoted.

Two wrongs does not make a right.  It is rather crucial that you do your part even when no one else is doing theirs.

Promotion lies ahead but it is our attitude that will determine the outcome of your future.

Until next time,do have yourselves a productive week and remember; God knows your heart; nothing you do will go in vain so, watch your attitude.

Happy Monday everyone!

REFLECTION #1: TRUE BEAUTY

Personal Reflections - Hidden Truths

Exploring Matters of the Heart

with Terry-Ann Scott

Are you constantly seeking ways to improve your home, your surrounding or YOU?  Are you addicted to making changes or improvements in any form?  If you are prone to changes in a more than regular fashion, it's time to look within.

While some changes may be good, the constant need for freshness or those regular urges for having a new appearance or different environment may be the result of a secondary problem that needs to be addressed.

These urges usually serve to cover up an underlying problem such as pass trauma/hurts (from being raped, abused, losing a loved one, suffering abandonment, rejection, etc.), Of course from these would stem low self esteem, loneliness  poor self image and so much more  hence the desire for change; but these are only secondary -  the byproduct of a deeper issue - which results in  the need to feel better about ourselves, or just good on a whole.

If this is your story and you have identified that this could be you then it is time to let go off the past.  This is done by a matter of choice.  These things hurts, and the fear of being used, abused or mistreated still lives on but you now have to choose to let it go.  Do not fear the possibility but instead face your reality.  Life goes on and we all need to come to that place in our life where we will give everything to God and that includes trusting him with our entire lives.  While this does not eradicate all  possibility of ever being hurt again, it does eliminate that dreaded bondage of fear that tends to trap us and we can be free to be ourselves because of this trust in God.  It give us the confidence where we too can say, "God will work all things together for good to them that love him".  So while we may still experience pain, we still have that hope of a brighter future and a better tomorrow  (go to this link and read also http://www.terryannscott.com/apps/blog/search?q=yourself ).

So the next time you get that urge to change the living room (even though you just change it) or to get a new hair cut (though you still love the one you recently got), shine the light within.  Begin to search your heart and fix those ugly image and memories of pass hurts and pain within.  Eliminate those pain and fear that traps you daily and controls the choices you make.  God is willing to help and he is just a prayer away.  He would love to hear from you today.  Real beauty starts from within so instead of improving your physical appearance all the time, take a look at your heart and when this is fixed the beauty will shine right out from within.

Until next time, have yourselves a productive week and Shine for Christ!

Did you know that someone can have a pretty face but looks unattractive because of a nasty mouth or bad attitude when demonstrated? The opposite is also true.  You can have an unattractive face in reality but look beautiful to many because of the qualities and pureness that comes from your spirit.

MARRIAGE TALK - THE CONCLUSION

Let's Talk Marriage

Core Principles to Live by for a Happy Successful Marriage

based on a personal compilation

Terry-Ann Scott

Marriage is a beautiful union and bitter can become sweet when God is in it.

While we don't go around looking and hoping  for problems, it is a good idea for every couple to have a plan in hand of how to deal with problems if trouble comes knocking on your door.  I can't stress this enough; couples are to be prepared to handle pressure, not if, but when it comes.  Struggles and trials are set to build us and make us stronger and better - not bitter- if we allow it.  Ironically, with the knowledge I have gained through experience, I no longer detest problems the way I did because I see it as an invitation for change (though this can be very challenging).  As a result of this, I see my marriage as an adventure or an opportunity to expand and enlarge myself into becoming better and I encourage you to do the same.

If your marriage is in trouble and you are seeking help, or if you are working on your marriage but discouragement keeps presenting itself, do not give up.  From God is in it stick to it.  My husband often say, "If we can't do our part to make the marriage work then we won't be able to please God and make it into his kingdom.  The same discipline it takes to deny self is the same discipline required to please God", and I have to agree.  This is serious, if we can't please the one we see, how are we going to please the one we can't see?

Let's face it.  Men's needs are totally different from the needs of women.  Sometimes it seems as if we are wired differently (OK we are wired differently lol).  A man can come home from his aunt's funeral and want sex while the typical woman just does not work like that.  It always amazes me also, how when a woman is tired she wants to sleep but when a man is tired, he is never too tired for sex!  I don't get it (*smiles*)!   God has a perfect plan in all this when he made man and woman and brought us together.  It was designed to get us out of ourselves and to live for each other.  When God puts a man with a woman (and a woman with a man), there is something in you that only your spouse can unlock and if we allow God to have his way with us in the marital union, things would be much better.

As we conclude this series, remember to work on all the areas we discussed previously. Put God first in your life, form or develop a bond, practice healthy communication, value each other and commit to each other no matter what.  Maintain and nurture that bond created in all areas and watch your marriage work.  Remember to give it sometime and do not rush or force your spouse into something they are not ready to handle.  Let time heal.  What you do in time is crucial also, so, be patient, loving, kind, giving, caring and honest.  Allow 1 Corinthians 13 to be your guide as it talks about the true characteristics of love.  Let love be seen in you and God will do the rest.  As usual, giving up is not an option, not when God is in it, so change the way you see your spouse and your marriage.  You'd be amazed with what that can do for you. With Christ in the vessel you can smile at any storm.

Until next time, take care and may God bless our marriage.

PRINCIPLE #5: REMAIN COMMITTED

Let's Talk Marriage

Core Principles to Live by for a Happy Successful Marriage

based on a personal compilation

Terry-Ann Scott

One of the things couples often forget within the marital union is their vows; "for richer or for poorer, for better or for worse", and this in short reflects the lack of commitment or preparation that persons enter into the marital union.

Marriage is like a triangle with only three people involved; you, your spouse and God at the head/top of it.  In order for a marriage to work, we must be willing to commit to our spouse no matter what.   Many marriages fail because of the lack of commitment   Many marriages fail because of the disappointment that exceeds failed expectations.  Many marriages fail, when couples were probably at the brink of a breakthrough but gave up due to challenges that became burdensome.  These are some of the difficulties that comes along with the sacrifices involved in working on a marriage and these issues must be addressed to get desired results.  If my husband or I had given up on our marriage, we would never have what we have today.  We would never be experiencing the real joys of the marital union and in essence we probably would not be who God wants us to be today.  We are who we are because we have chosen to allow God to have his way in our marriage and commit to each other no matter what.  Once you stick to something good it can only change you into being something or someone better.

After you have done all, and there is nothing left to do...if things keep falling apart, just stand and commit.  It does take two for a marriage to work but I'll add it only begins with one.  Do your part even if your spouse is unwilling and God will bring conviction to the heart.  Sooner or later  your spouse will begin to identify the changes in you and as time goes by they will want that change also.  Never involve another party outside of the triangle into your marriage for any kind of fulfillment; whether sexually, emotionally, you name it.  If this was already done, it's never too late to be forgiven and make a fresh start but be willing to commit.  Pray and ask God for the strength to commit and he will give it to you.

The key to all this however is to...'Love expecting nothing in return'.  Now that's the God kind of love lol.  This may sound hard, unreasonable or irrational but if you ask, God can give you the strength to and once God is in your marriage, you are bound to see improvements that will encourage your efforts.  To love expecting nothing in return helps to eliminates disappointment from failed expectations because then you will be removing all expectations while still producing the effort to give or to do your part.

I'll borrow one line from the movie "Fireproof" and it's 'Never leave your partner within a fire'.  Don't be quick to leave your  marriage when things go wrong but be willing to commit, stick around and allow God to help you work it out.  It took time to get your marriage to where it is now so give your marriage time to heal and remember...'Giving up is not an option'!

PRINCIPLE #4: RESPECT AND VALUE EACH OTHER

Let's Talk Marriage

Core Principles to Live by for a Happy Successful Marriage

based on a personal compilation

The number one thing men crave within a marriage besides sex is respect.  They want to feel like a king in their own palace and this can be accomplished through the submission of the wives.

On the other hand, the number one thing a woman craves within her marriage besides attention is love.  She wants to know that she is special and she will feel fulfilled when she is being treated right.

With that being said, women need respect also and men love.  If couples could learn how to master the art of understanding and respecting each other, then things would become much easier within our marriage.

Couples should be prepared to work on their relationship even more after marriage than they would before marriage.  NO ONE SHOULD BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED.

Respect and value your spouse, and make it obvious in the way you treat them.  Make them feel special, talk to them with respect and do it different than you do others.  Make a statement,  make them stand out and let them know that no one else can ever take their place.  Make them know that they are stuck with you, you have no where to go but in their arms even in the tough times.  Let them know you will stick around long enough to work things out not because you can't leave but because you love them and you have learned how to value the one you love.  Love is an action word so show it.

Show it by:

1.  Prioritizing: Put your spouse, their feelings, their needs, likes and dislikes first and treat with importance.

2.  Make time out of your busy schedule to spend with your spouse on a regular basis.

3.  Practice the 4 A's here; admiration, approval, affirmation and acceptance.  Every marriage needs this

     for sustenance.

4.  There should never be a genuine question in your spouses mind about whether or not you respect and

value them so start a campaign to remove all doubts and fears.  Going all out will speak of their value

and self worth.  Once these possibilities are removed it is then that you will know they are truly valued.

5.  Remember, you can't truly value or respect anyone unless you first learn how to value and respect

yourself so everything begins with you as an individual.  Love yourself so you can love others.

When you are truly valued it gives a level of freedom where one will never second guess being their true self around the one they love as this improves self confidence.

And here's the added bonus; sex becomes more exciting, passionate and meaningful when all these are in place.

Sex does not have to be a selfish act, an act of receiving only, but rather it should be an act of giving and sharing along with receiving.  This is more rewarding as both parties will be satisfied.

After all the hard sacrifice and effort you put into your marriage, the rewards will be much greater in the end.  Stick to the program and it will work for you and don't forget to ask God for help because he is the one doing all the fixing behind the scene.  Do your part and God will do the rest if you allow him.

PRINCIPLE #3: PRACTICE HEALTHY COMMUNICATION

Let's Talk Marriage

Core Principles to Live by for a Happy Successful Marriage

based on a personal compilation

Communication is one of the biggest problem most couples face and is probably the leading factor to emotional detachment when not done correctly.  Effective communication is needed for bonding emotionally and when done incorrectly it may have adverse reactions just the same.

Communication is a three (3) way process - you listen - interpret (with correct understanding) - and then you speak or respond.  Sounds simple?  Well, when two people meet from two different backgrounds, with different past and up bringing and different beliefs, communication can be one of the most tedious, frustrating and challenging  situation anyone can ever find them self into and we have also our unique personalty to thank which helps to affect how we communicate.

Different persons speak differently and we have to learn how to recognize and appreciate these differences.  If you can learn how to identify your spouse's communication pattern and language - from what makes them tick  to what makes them happy or when to speak or express a concern from when to keep quiet, including interpreting body language (which is a part of the communication art), your life would be a whole lot easier.

I can tell anyone,  the key to effective communication is getting the correct understanding  of what is said or is taking place.  An understanding of why what was said or done can shed light to a whole new picture, eliminating tension and arguments.  For example, if you can understand that the reason your spouse becomes quiet or quiet the opposite, which would be boisterous or outraged whenever you complain about something you don't like, it would help, if you identified his response as a defense mechanism, and further link this defensive reaction to a pass experience that was traumatic or damaging, with the effects of causing him/her to  feel less than a man or a woman when unsatisfactory complaints are made; i'm sure you would handle the matter differently than if you thought your spouse just does not want to listen and does not care about your feelings etc.

Communication is not effective until all three (3) stages are processed correctly.

TIPS FOR HEALTHY COMMUNICATION

1.  CALM DOWN before engaging in any discussion.  If for some reason your spouse refuses to delay the discussion, please remember, it takes two to make an argument.  My mother always say, "one must be water as two can't be fire", and I agree.  Remember you are in control of your emotions so remind yourself of that, you do not have to stay upset.

2.  LISTEN:  You won't know what is wrong unless you listen, so, do so without the urge of cutting in to share your side.  Clear your mind and try to understand what is being said.  Give it an honest shot; you may discover something.

3.  ASK for clarification of the interpretation you get before jumping to conclusion, to eliminate further problems.

4.  REMEMBER RESPECT:  Expressions shared must be shared respectfully.  You can be angry and still speak in a  calm and respectful manner.  If you practice the opposite over the years you can retrain yourself into doing what is right and healthy for your relationship.

5.  FREEDOM:  Persons must be free to express them self and the atmosphere should be welcoming for you to express freely.  A sty-filing feeling is a lonely feeling.  Just as you would want your spouse to listen to you, you should listen also.

Effective communication can be tricky but is an  important part of every relationship as the lack of this can lead to emotional detachment and cause strain on the relationship.  You can be married but still feel alone and this is something no one wants so the next time your tongue meets with your spouse, remember to 'keep it healthy'.

With a little tweaking, a couple practice and with God in the middle as your referee, your marriage will be fine.  As always, do remember that with Christ in the vessel we can smile at the storm.  He's ready to help you even with how to communicate with each other.

Don't miss another exciting subject as we discuss principle #4 in next week's edition.  See you there!

PRINCIPLE #2: BONDING

Let's Talk Marriage

Have you watched a love story before where the stars of that story portrays love in such a manner that you cried and even begin to wish that that story was the story of YOUR life?  Maybe it even went to the point where you got mad at your spouse because of frustration and the absence of love or the effects thereof in your life.  Or.  Have you ever been in a restaurant before having a silent meal with your spouse while observing the chemistry of another couple that causes a little head turn now and then?

Well, the primary source for this type of attraction is due to delicate intricacies of bonding.  It is important that every couple knows how to connect with each other to eliminate negative and external forces such as loneliness, and to enhance all possibilities of being satisfied, fulfilled and happy in every sense of the word.

In my experience, I have learnt that there are five categories of bonding.  They are; Spiritual bonding which is the connection or joining of two spirits achieved through prayer, living the life of true love or other spiritual practices (we looked at this in  last week's session), Physical bonding which comes through physical attraction, Emotional & Mental connection which is formed through communication, Sexual Intimacy/fulfillment which comes through intercourse and social interaction which is strengthened by all the above.

It is important to bond in all categories and bonding must never be solely based on physical attraction or sexual intimacy   We already dealt with spiritual connection last week so lets get going with a few tips to encourage and stimulate the process of bonding in the area of social interaction.

1.  Develop a mutual understanding of your spouse avoiding dislikes as much as possible.  This is essential for
      effective  communication.
2.  It is important that couples share/develop similar interests that they can indulge in (similar interests makes
things a lot easier as things will flow naturally rather than forcefully).  If you find that you and your spouse do not
share the same interest, indulge as often as you can rotating each other's likes or try to develop similar
    interests.
3.  Find time for each other.  This can be with the children if any or by yourself as a couple (both is crucial to family
development).  Use this time to indulge in the things you both like and  to catch up on long lost time if you have
both grown apart.  Find out new things  about each other and be keen to observe possible solutions for
     obvious or known issues
4.  Have a date night or some other strategy to ensure you both spend alone time together.  If time is of the
essence you can start small by making one night each week special and fun that you both look forward to.
Other couples that have more time on their hand can try to spend at least one solid hour alone together
everyday or dedicate more than one days out of the week where all spare time is dedicated to family time.

Bonding strengthens the relationship and once a connection is established it will be obvious as you won't want to be away from each other for a second.   Moral of this weeks lesson?  Try to become each others best friend.  One they will never want to replace.  Make that connection stand out.  It takes time and work but the end result....just beautiful and you will say "it was worth the sacrifice".

Every marriage has speed bumps every now and then where you have to slow down and take a check  before proceeding.  These speed bumps are placed there as guides and if we observe carefully, we can make a few heads turn our self (though that is not the mission here lol).

See you next week as we continue with another important factor in principle #3.

PRINCIPLE #1: LOVE, LOVE,LOVE AND MORE LOVE

Let's Talk Marriage
Core Principles to Live by for a Happy Successful Marriage
based on a personal compilation
Terry-Ann Scott

OK, so you think this one was obvious and it is!  No marriage can last without the intervention of this four lettered word love; or at least the practicing of the principles of the word love.
I usually find relationships a little funny in that typically before marriage, you are so in love you can't wait to be with the person for ever; you don't want them out of your site and shortly after saying 'I DO', the yelling and the screaming and the 'I HATE YOU's' begin to roll and you may even find you can't stand being around the one you were in love with.  Maybe it has even got to the point where you begin to question, What did I do?  Do I really love him/her anymore? Or maybe you are already convinced you are no longer in love and it was all a mistake.  Sounds familiar?  What ever your answer is just read on.
Everyone must learn how to honor and respect a vow because when a vow is made, it is not just between the binding parties involved, but also God.  Vows are serious and should not be taken for granted or be easily broken if broken any at all.
A part of the marital vow says "for richer or for poorer", "in good times and in bad","in sickness or in health" and we must take note of these.  There is no part in the vow that says until I faults or until I grow weary or 'fed up' of you but it concluded by saying, "till death do us part" and so should it be.  With that being said, it should be clear that we must all be prepared to work through our problems while still being committed to the one we love.
One reason why many marriages fail is that people do not really know or understand how to truly love.  Love does not see or think of itself, but instead it thinks of others.  Love is always giving and never always taking.  If we truly understand how to walk in love, many marriages would not fail and many more will be retained and everyone will eventually be happy, but it takes a little more determination and effort on each person's part to get there.  You must be prepared to deny self and address your spouse's feelings instead of yours all the time and vice versa.  See more about Love here http://www.terryannscott.com/apps/blog/lesson-11-love .
There is one thing we should note.  Our love has an end, but God's love has no end, and this is why we need God in our marriages.  God is Love, he is endless love and in order for us to love endlessly we are going to need his love to fill us as we give him the opportunity to love through us.
We involve God in our marriages by loving him as he says, "if you love me keep my commandments" and  by putting him first in our lives, allowing him to lead us and to help us where our strength may fall short.
The bible tells us that the husband must love the wife as God loves the church and this is no easy task as it requires complete self denial like what God did by laying down his life for us so we can live again.  It is the wife's duty to love her husband also and we are commanded to submit to our husbands and to give respect would fall under submission also etc.
Putting God first is key in any marriage as only God searches and knows all hidden truth.  He will give us the formula for each other as each individual is uniquely different.  He is the binding ingredient to any relationship just as egg is to a cake.  Without him we can easily fall apart and crumble.
So, establish a spiritual connection with your spouse by praying and find time to study the word of God together.  Invite God into your marriage and allow him to transform things for you.
After the spiritual is dealt with, we can move on to creating a healthy environment in the natural/physical realm (before something takes place in the natural it first takes place in the spiritual).

MARRIAGE TALK INTRO CONTINUED

Let's Talk Marriage
Core Principles to Live by for a Happy Successful Marriage
based on a personal compilation
Terry-Ann Scott

Marriage is a beautiful thing and we all have the chance of experiencing it's beauty.  Marriage is especially beautiful when God is in it.
In my opinion, every marriage has its own unique formula for it to work. and we must depend on God to give us this formula as each person and each marriage is uniquely different.  Marriage is work, and it takes work to maintain every level of new happiness discovered.
So, we pray to God for a spouse, and we got our gift unlocked (found the right person)  and with a big smile we watch until we begin to unfold flaws...things we did not bargain for.   From here we begin to criticize and declare what we want, and without effort to work for it.
If we want our marriage to be happy, we have to enter into this union with the correct frame of mind, removing all unhealthy expectation, and  learn how to create a healthy environment for our marriage to sustain the life in it.  Marriage is a selfless thing, or so it should be.  Marriage requires give and take and it  can never always be about what you want or what you are not getting.  In other words it can never always be about just you; but  it should be about your spouse.  Take care of each other's need instead of trying to satisfy your own all the time.

According to the world wide web, some of the top reasons for a divorce includes but is not limited to:
1.   Poor communication
2.   Financial problems
3.   Lack of commitment
4.   A dramatic change in priorities
5.   Infidelity
6.   Failed expectations/current needs
7.   Addiction and Substance abuse
8.   Other abuse
9.   Lack of conflict resolving skills

If we are going to have a happy successful marriage, we must first be willing to WORK with God to eliminate these cause.  If you truly want your marriage to work then be prepared to give 100% of yourself to your spouse and not just a part.  You will never know if something can work until you put your all into it.
Now close your eyes and think with me for a minute.  You are pleasing your spouse....doing what he/she likes and in return you are being satisfied in every way.  This scenario requires compromise but at the end of the day you are not the only one happy but the love of your life is also happy.  What joy!  Sounds like fairy tale? Or, not sure how to get there?
Join me next week as we explore principle #1, for a happy, successful marriage.
